I have been working on my copy for my website in the last couple of weeks (Will be updating soon!). It is interesting how much my style has changed. What I find even more fascinating, is that the more I write, the more it sounds like me.
Interesting statement, I know. I spent the beginning of writing copy trying to get it perfect and polished. I remember feeling stuck on what I was writing, taking long breaks and waiting for inspiration to hit. When I would go back to writing, I started writing in a way that I was hoping my audience will like and want to hear.
But when I read it out loud, it sounded off. So I started at the beginning from scratch. This time, I started writing from the heart. I kept the question in my mind “The person who really needs my help is out there. How can I reach her?”
I also kept the thought “I want to bring out my voice on paper”
I poured myself on paper, the unedited version and all. My creative juices were flowing. I could feel my emotions coming out on paper. The burst of inspiration led to some of my finer writing. I could see myself in the words that I wrote on paper.
Finding your voice is an evolution. You may think you know what is it like in the beginning but it will change over time with commitment and practice. Your style will change, your comfort level will increase and you will start to become your own.
The journey of the process is even more important than the end result.
I am finding this theme in many areas of my life-cultivating my dream career, writing weekly blogs, trying out vlogs and learning to be comfortable speaking on video and even posting on IG.
Putting yourself out there while feeling discomfort is a sign of growth. You are trying out new areas to see how much it can stretch you. It may feel uncomfortable to sit with the feeling and still do hard things. It will pass and you will be amazed how much you have changed looking back at that moment
I am seeing it for myself.
How are you putting yourself out there and finding your voice?
