10 Things You Can Do Today to Change Your Productivity Mindset

March 14, 2024

Hey friend! I think you’ll agree with me when I say…

It’s CHALLENGING to have a productivity mindset.

While it may not be as easy as drinking coffee, you can still be productive and have more time in your personal life.

Set Clear Goals in Your Business, Home and Personal Life

In each category, pick specific, measurable goals you want to achieve in a certain time frame. For example, I would like to batch cook Instapot turkey chili for 1 week Sunday evening for a family of three.

Prioritize Tasks

Identify the most important tasks that will contribute to your goals and tackle them first. You can break them into categories like

  • Urgent (Time-Sensitive)
  • Important (Must be done but have time)
  • Project (Want to do when there isn’t much to do in urgent and important)
  • Maybe later (tasks that might need to do or actually don’t need to do at all).

Break Tasks into Smaller Steps

Large tasks can be overwhelming, leading to procrastination. Break them down into smaller, more manageable steps to make them feel more achievable. You can also estimate the time it will take to do the smaller steps. Make sure to add more time than you think you would need, instead of less.

Manage Distractions:

Identify common distractions in your environment and take steps to minimize them. This might include turning off notifications, setting specific times for checking emails or social media, or finding a quiet workspace.

Context Switching

When starting the task, focus on the task at hand. If you start one task and go to another and then another, you will lose focus and be drained by the end of the day.

Eliminate Perfectionism

Recognize that perfectionism can be a barrier to productivity. As I learned in coaching school, it is better to have B minus work than strive for A plus work because you are more likely to put your work out and accomplish the task if it is B minus work than re-doing and re-working A plus work to get it as perfect as possible.

Create a Productive Environment

Design your workspace to optimize productivity. Remove clutter, add plants for freshness, and ensure good lighting and ergonomics. Add objects that bring a smile to your face.  A well-organized and visually appealing environment can enhance focus and motivation.

Learn to Say No

Practice setting boundaries and saying no to tasks or commitments that don’t align with your priorities or goals. This allows you to focus your time and energy on activities that truly matter.

Reflect and Adjust

Regularly reflect on your productivity habits and results. Identify what’s working well and what could be improved, then make adjustments accordingly. Continuous improvement is key to developing a productive mindset.

Practice Self-Care

Prioritize your physical and mental well-being by getting enough sleep, eating healthily, exercising regularly, and taking breaks when needed. A healthy body and mind are essential for sustained productivity.

I hope this list could show you that it is possible to see change when it comes to having a productive mindset.

Now it’s your turn. Which of these 10 things from today’s post are you going to try first?

Are you going to try number #2 or number #5?

Either way, I know that you’ll see changes if you just implement 1 and you don’t have to do it alone.
