Rewriting the Rules to Get Time Back (Part 1) – E2

Episode 2 –

As a mom entrepreneur, you’ve probably had moments where you set big goals for your business—only to have life completely derail your plans. A sick kid, your own health, school events, or just plain exhaustion can throw you off track. Suddenly, you’re behind on client follow-ups, momentum feels lost, and the mental load is heavier than ever.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. In this episode of Biz-Mom Life, Dr. Celia shares mindset shifts that help you rewrite the rules of time management so you can keep moving forward in business—even in messy seasons of motherhood.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • Practical mindset shifts that protect your energy and momentum
  • Why traditional productivity tools often don’t work for moms in business
  • How to reset your expectations when life throws curveballs
  • The importance of giving yourself “permission slips” in business
  • A fresh perspective on time that helps you release guilt and pressure

When Business Goals Meet Mom Life

Maybe you had a plan to clean up your business backend before the new year, or to finally follow up with that dream client. But then your kids got sick, you got sick, and suddenly survival mode took over. Weeks passed, and by the time you could focus again, opportunities had slipped away.

That guilt of “falling behind” can feel crushing. But here’s the truth: seasons of chaos are part of motherhood and entrepreneurship. What matters isn’t perfection—it’s learning how to adapt.

Shifting From External Pressure to Internal Resilience

Instead of piling on more systems, planners, or sticky notes, start by checking in with yourself:

  • How am I feeling?
  • What thoughts keep resurfacing and weighing me down?
  • What do I actually have capacity for in this season?

By strengthening your internal mindset first, you’ll be better equipped to handle the external strategies later.

Permission to Pause

When life gets intense, pressing pause isn’t failure—it’s wisdom. You may be in a season that’s more mom-focused, or one where your health requires rest. Giving yourself permission to slow down protects your energy and allows your business to keep going for the long haul.

Think of it as giving yourself the same grace you’d give your best friend.

Time in the Bigger Picture

It’s easy to feel like a few “lost weeks” mean your business is doomed. But zoom out for a moment: if you’re building a business for 5–10 years, a short season of slower progress is just a tiny blip on the radar.

Your business is a marathon, not a sprint. Taking care of yourself and your family now is what allows you to stay in the game long-term.

Next Steps:

Final Thoughts

Rewriting the rules of time management isn’t about squeezing more hours into your day—it’s about shifting your perspective. By embracing flexibility, granting yourself permission to pause, and zooming out on the bigger picture, you’ll protect both your energy and your business momentum.

This is Part 1 of a 2-part series. In the next episode, we’ll dive into the practical strategies and action steps to help you prioritize when life feels overwhelming.

Dr. Celia
00:00 – 01:59
Recently I had moved and now I’m working basically in my closet slash office and it’s totally different from what I used to be in like before I had like an office and everything was like nicely organized and like where it should be and so pretty and everything and right now I’m in my closet slash office and like I got like sticky notes everywhere which covering my desk I have like my planner which I found in a box which like half check task and still you know what because of that like just like still kind of feeling somewhat behind and then like I was thinking like why do we keep hoping these tools will finally help us get it together when they never do and that’s just like reminded me like around in December where like I had this major goal of like wanting to like get all like the back-end stuff done be put everything in place where it should be my business that like I go into January like ready to go like it’s kind of like almost like kind of like spring cleaning and you know you get everything prepped so it’s like your house looks great for that time period but you’re doing in December and I had that planned for my business and everything but yet like life had its own plans because my son was actually diagnosed with pneumonia and he was just so so sick and I was doing my best to take care of him and everything and then he got better and I got sick and then that whole entire month was like a blur like I had a plan for that month to clean up my business and prep for January and all that like what I wanted to do all that prep was just basically gone like that when I finally did feel better it was just like things just fell off the wayside like there was a client during that time period that I wanted to follow up with and everything and I was just like Barely hanging on and barely functioning during a time and the client I did fall up with later on turns out that they moved on to somebody else.

Dr. Celia
02:01 – 02:26
And because of like thinking about this, I was also wondering like maybe you felt like this too. Like you had major business goals that you want to accomplish like following up with a potential client willing to pay you like 10k for your services. But then you got sick and your kiddos got sick and you’re like basically running on fumes taking care of your kids and surviving that you totally forget to follow up. And then you realize like later on when you start to feel better and follow up only to realize they ended up working with somebody else.

Dr. Celia
02:27 – 03:05
and you just feel so crummy because like life was lifing so hard that you had major business goals that you want to accomplish but it was just like so hard to function at that time and I just want to tell you that like you are not alone like I’ve been there too and I bet those listening right now are saying like yes me too so What can we do when our business growth keeps getting stuck when like our personal life is just in chaos? And my approach to this like during the whole time period in December and even like in January is to work on internally first and then work externally later.

Dr. Celia
03:06 – 03:38
And what I mean by that is, like, working internally on, like, how am I feeling? How am I thinking? Is there anything that I notice that’s been a reoccurring thought that keeps coming back over and over that is negatively affecting my business? And taking that into consideration, I work on that first before I work on the external and come up with, like, an action plan and strategy of what to do next. I’m going to talk about like three areas to consider internally and next week I’m going to talk about like the strategy aspect of it.

Dr. Celia
03:39 – 04:44
So the three areas to consider internally that’s been coming up for me and my audience is the first one is that like mom life is so real right now isn’t it? It’s like if you’re in a season that feels heavier than most it’s like a thunderstorm that rages for days like the rain keeps coming the wind keeps howling and sometimes it feels like the sun forgets to exist. But I want to remind you like the truth about like these storms is that they they do shift like they always do. like the brighter days they’re just right around the corner they’re coming and I know sometimes that’s hard to believe when you’re like soaked to the bone but it does happen like we never have like a thunderstorm that is for like 30 days 60 days 90 days straight thunderstorms come and go and eventually the sun will come out and that definitely felt true for me like in December January where like My little one was sick, I was sick and I had just like such big goals and I had to put everything on the wayside because it was just like I was just barely functioning myself and just trying to take care of my little one and that’s all the reserves I had at that time.

Dr. Celia
04:46 – 06:00
So instead of waiting it out with the storm that you’re in, what if you built a shelter right here in the middle of the storm? One made of realistic expectations, flexibility, and simple systems that keep your business moving without you burning out. Because it’s important to remember what your capacity is, what’s your energy, and what you can do in that season of time like for me during December January like I didn’t have the capacity to like spring clean my business and get things put in track so I’ll be set up for to do really well January onwards like I was just basically like doing what I can to keep my business going but also have to like take care of myself and my son and like wait for this you know Like stop feeling sick and wait to feel better, you know, and sometimes your body needs to rest sometimes your body can only do so much and Stretching yourself thin is worse than just like Trying to like take rest and wait for the recovery to kick into place Because while you can’t control the weather, to use that analogy, you can create a space that protects what matters most, you and your business.

Dr. Celia
06:00 – 06:45
Like the sun will come back and it will get better, but until then, during that time period when things are just like not great and life is lifing, just focus on building something that’ll help you weather this season. and the hard moment that you’re experiencing like it’s just that it’s just a moment like the forecast will change even if you cannot feel it right now because there’s going to be like ebbs and flows of business like sometimes it’s going to go really well everything’s aligned like everything is falling in place and other times like your business might be affected your personal life might be affected or both and it’s just like too much and sometimes you kind of have to like figure out like all right what can I do right now and what can I do to just like keep going and pick up when I need to pick up.

Dr. Celia
06:47 – 07:22
So I just wanted to have a moment for you to consider that and think about that as well. So the second thing I wanted to mention was let’s talk about permission slips. And not the ones that your kid needs for field trips, but the ones you need right now. When life gets intense, when the kids are sick, school activities are taking over, and your own health is not 100%, it is okay to press pause on your business. Actually, it’s more than okay, it’s necessary. Right now, you might have more of a mom-focused season, and if you’re sick too, then it’s really more like a self-focused season.

Dr. Celia
07:22 – 07:54
And that’s not selfish, that’s survival. You are doing what you can, mama, to get through this season of life. So here is your permission slip that I am giving you in case it feels like you can’t give to yourself. That you have full permission to adjust, to pause, to focus on what you actually have capacity for right now. Like, you don’t need to maintain business as usual when life is anything but usual. And if you’re waiting for someone to tell you that it’s okay, consider this your sign. Like, give yourself the same grace you would give your best friend.

Dr. Celia
07:54 – 09:25
Because taking care of yourself and your family is not giving up. It’s giving yourself what you need in this moment. and we all need grace and we all need time to take care of ourselves given like what we’re experiencing in that moment which leads me to the last point about like time itself like in particular of how we view it in business like when you’re in the thick of things like a few weeks of slower progress can feel like you’re falling desperately behind and I get it trust me I get it but like given all this I want you to zoom out with me for a minute like let’s just take like a macro view of your business if you’re building business for like the next five to ten years which let’s be real is the goal the few weeks that you know you’re not really spending time on your business it’s just a tiny blimp of your timeline for your business like super tiny think about it a couple of weeks out of 10 years that’s like worrying about a single raindrop in an ocean like your business is not a sprint it’s like more like a really really long road trip sometimes you need to pull over for a bit and like that’s totally fine like you know like I think this is where like self-love and self-compassion comes in because we’re as moms as business owners we’re just not great at doing it for ourselves like being kinder to ourselves having grace for ourselves but you’re doing a lot you’re doing so so much like it is hard to do both at the same time and sometimes you know what How we view time is like, it’s not like in that moment of time where it feels like eternity.

Dr. Celia
09:25 – 09:56
It’s like taking a macro view of it and seeing that like, yes, this tiny little blip may not be the best time period, but I’m here for the long haul. I’m here to see it through and it’ll just pass like thunderstorms pass throughout the time period of the season. Because the truth is, business is a long game. And in the grand scheme of things, like in your business journey, taking care of yourself and your family for a few weeks is not going to derail your entire future. Actually, it just might help you stay in the game longer.

Dr. Celia
09:58 – 10:30
So I would love to hear your thoughts and your takeaway points. So feel free to email me and the email will be in the show notes. And I hope you know that you’re doing amazing, Mama. And I know you’re doing a lot with your business. I know you’re doing a lot with raising your little ones. And I see you and I feel for you. And I’m here for you. And I hope you’ll come back next week and hear the second half on how to do the strategy and the action steps for when you’re in this season of life and what do you need to prioritize at that moment.

Dr. Celia
10:31 – 10:35
So thank you for tuning in today and stay tuned for next week and I’ll talk to you soon.
