Dr. Celia
00:00 – 00:08
It’s 8 47 a.m. Your child has a meltdown about socks. You couldn’t find the library book. You forgot to sign the permission slip.
Dr. Celia
00:09 – 00:34
You finally sit down to your desk already behind and you open your laptop and even before you click on anything the thought hits I can’t do this or maybe the thought is I’m so behind or you might be thinking Other people are just better at this than I am. Your calendar hasn’t changed, your task list has not changed, but your capacity suddenly feels cut in half. Not because of time, because of the thoughts.
Dr. Celia
00:34 – 00:55
And that’s the part most productivity advice ignores. Your thoughts shape your capacity more than your calendar does. If you don’t learn how to manage cognitive and emotional load, you will exhaust yourself before you even start working. And here’s the scary part, from the outside it looks like a time management problem, but it is not.
Dr. Celia
00:56 – 01:18
So today I’m going to teach you how to separate thoughts from facts, regulate emotional spillover, and reduce the mental load that comes from thinking that does not serve you. So you could actually reclaim focus and momentum even on the messy days of biz mom life. So let’s start with something foundational. Thoughts are interruptions, not truths.
Dr. Celia
01:19 – 01:25
Your brain generates thousands of thoughts per day. Most are automatic. Many are repetitive. Some are distorted.
Dr. Celia
01:26 – 01:33
But high-achieving women often treat these thoughts like commands. I’m behind. I’m failing. This launch won’t work.
Dr. Celia
01:33 – 01:47
I should be further along by now in my business. And here’s what’s happening neurologically. When you believe a stressful thought, your brain activates a threat response. Cortisol rises, your nervous system shifts into protection mode.
Dr. Celia
01:48 – 02:09
Blood flow prioritizes survival circuits over creative reasoning. So when you think I’m behind, your brain doesn’t just hear a sentence, it hears danger. And creativity, strategic thinking, and problem solving all decrease under perceived threats. This is why you could stare at your screen for 45 minutes doing nothing while telling yourself that you’re lazy.
Dr. Celia
02:10 – 02:28
It is not laziness. It is a threat response. And just to give a story about something that happened in my own life that during the recovery period, like I felt that I should be doing more and my brain kept telling me, you should be doing more. You don’t need to sit, you know, be in bed rest and recovery.
Dr. Celia
02:28 – 02:52
You could just start doing something in your business. And when I try to do something in my business, it just like took so much energy out of me because the energy needed for my body is to heal after the surgery, to have the inflammation go down, just to have like healing internally. Yet I was trying to take that focus and put it somewhere else, such as my business. And I realized earlier on that like, look, I can’t do this.
Dr. Celia
02:53 – 03:24
I got to focus on my recovery. My business will be there later and I could get to it when I’m having the capacity to do so. And once I redirected my thoughts of like, I could work my business at a later point, my body needs me now, that thought helped so much during the recovery and helped actually speed up the recovery for me. So maybe there was a time when one thought derailed an entire work block for you, or maybe a launch day where mindset, not strategy, was a real obstacle.
Dr. Celia
03:25 – 04:06
Inside my one-on-one coaching, we practice identifying thoughts that do not serve you, not to eliminate them but to neutralize them so you could actually focus on your income generating project and make money in your business. Because you don’t need to do more work and just be busy and beat yourself up with the thoughts you’re having. You just need less thoughts that do not serve you and more thoughts that help you drive you to the goal that you have for your business. So I want you to keep this in mind, name the thought, don’t obey it, question it and see if it’s true or not and take it from there because awareness reduces the thoughts power over you.
Dr. Celia
04:08 – 04:45
Now let’s talk about feelings because sometimes it’s not just about thoughts. It’s actually the emotional residue that’s happening as well. Like for example, like you’re having a day where your child is dysregulated, your partner is stressed, a client is sending a frustrating email and you see a competitor’s big announcement and suddenly you feel irritated, defeated, anxious, jealous, overwhelmed, Put your emotion in here. Research shows that humans unconsciously absorb the emotional state of those around them.
Dr. Celia
04:46 – 05:00
Mirror neurons activate stress transfers. So when your child has a meltdown before school, your nervous system doesn’t just observe it, it joins it. And then we expect ourselves to immediately pivot into CEO mode. And that’s unrealistic.
Dr. Celia
05:01 – 05:18
You cannot logic your way out of your nervous system activation. You must regulate it first. And that might look like this. 90 seconds of slow breathing, a quick walk, a body reset, stepping away before responding to an email, writing out what you’re feeling without censoring it.
Dr. Celia
05:19 – 05:33
Because here’s what neuroscience tells us. The chemical lifespan of an emotion is about 60 to 90 seconds. 60 to 90 seconds. unless we refuel it with thought loops.
Dr. Celia
05:33 – 06:16
Meaning that the initial wave will pass, but if you keep replaying it over and over in your mind and you keep fueling it, it will never stop. And when I work with my mom business owners inside the VIP experience, we actually address this so they’re able to work on their business without having the emotions like override everything they’ve been working on and taking over their life. Because if you’re having emotions that are high and not serving you and like making it harder for you, it’s going to make it harder for you to work on your goals, on your business, on what you want to accomplish. And ultimately your end goal of your business does not get accomplished for what you’ve been trying to do.
Dr. Celia
06:18 – 06:49
So it’s really important to work on regulating your emotions and then deciding afterwards what you want to do in terms of your business. Like getting the emotions of like the anxiety lower, the overwhelm, addressing the jealousy or whatever negative emotions you’re experiencing. And then taking the next step on working on your business because capacity expands when your nervous system feels safe. So you might be wondering, like, what’s the difference between cognitive load versus time load?
Dr. Celia
06:49 – 07:08
And this is a distinction that is really important. Cognitive load refers to how much mental processing your brain is already handling. Worrying about the finances, your child’s behavior, an upcoming launch, your health, a conversation that didn’t go well. And research on working memory shows that it is limited.
Dr. Celia
07:09 – 07:24
When it is overloaded, task performance drops significantly. So when you sit down to work and feel scattered, ask, is it a time problem? Is it a cognitive load problem? Sometimes the most productive thing you could do is reduce open loops.
Dr. Celia
07:25 – 07:55
Like, write everything that’s mentally swirling your head down on paper. Clarify what’s actually urgent and delete what isn’t. Inside coaching, this is where we use structured decision framework so your brain isn’t carrying everything at once because ambiguity is heavy and clarity feels so much lighter. So it’s important to reduce the open loops that’s happening so you could actually be able to have the capacity to work on what you want to do in your business and mental space actually fuels productivity.
Dr. Celia
07:57 – 08:21
I wanted you to have this tool to help you in when you’re having days where your thoughts are just getting you down or your emotions are super high that you can’t work on what you need to do. So when your thoughts start spiraling and your capacity feels like it’s shrinking in real time, pause and ask yourself these three questions. What is the fact? Is number one.
Dr. Celia
08:22 – 08:29
What is the interpretation? Which is number two. Does the interpretation accurately represent the fact? Which is number three.
Dr. Celia
08:30 – 08:43
And that third question is the game changer. Because most of the time, the interpretation is amplified, absolute, or emotionally loaded. And that’s not, what we need to serve us in our business. So let’s break this down.
Dr. Celia
08:44 – 08:55
Like an example is fact. Sales were lower this week than last week. Interpretation, my business is failing. Does that interpretation accurately represent the fact?
Dr. Celia
08:56 – 09:11
No, it represents fear, it represents uncertainty, but it does not represent the full data set. Here’s another, fact. My child has a meltdown this morning and I started to work late. Interpretation, today is ruined, I won’t get anything done.
Dr. Celia
09:13 – 09:37
Does that interpretation accurately represent the fact? No, it represents frustration, not reality. When you separate fact from interpretation, your nervous system settles because ambiguity decreases. Research in cognitive behavioral psychology shows that cognitive distortions, like catastrophizing or overgeneralizing, increases emotional distress and impair problem solving.
Dr. Celia
09:38 – 09:50
Simply identifying distortions reduces its intensity. So, this is not about toxic positivity. It’s about cognitive precision. You are not trying to replace negative thoughts with blindly positive ones.
Dr. Celia
09:50 – 09:58
You are asking, is this thought accurate? Is this proportionate? Is this evidence-based? Does this thought help me?
Dr. Celia
09:58 – 10:32
Inside my coaching program, we practice this because growth-driven mom entrepreneurs tend to have very convincing inner narratives which their intelligent brains have created which distorts what’s really happening. But when you build a skill of evaluating your interpretations instead of automatically believing them, something powerful happens. Your emotional reactivity decreases, your decisions become cleaner, and your capacity stabilizes. Because you’re no longer fighting imagined catastrophes, you’re responding to data and the data is still manageable.
Dr. Celia
10:33 – 10:45
So I want you to take away this, that facts are neutral, interpretations create strain. When in doubt, audit the thought. Accuracy restores capacity. So let’s recap what we covered today.
Dr. Celia
10:46 – 11:00
Your thoughts shape your capacity more than your calendar does. We talked about thoughts are interpretations, not instructions. Emotional spillover is biological, not weakness. Cognitive load drains capacity even when time is available.
Dr. Celia
11:00 – 11:11
And the three question reset to reclaim clarity. Your brain generates thousands of thoughts a day. You do not have to manage it all. Just the ones driving your behavior.
Dr. Celia
11:11 – 11:41
And when you’re ready to simplify what actually deserves your attention, download my free guide, Five Steps to Ditch the Mental Load. Here’s what happens when you use these five steps.
