Dr. Celia
00:00 – 00:42
You planned a big content day, you had the outline ready, your house was quiet, maybe you even had child care lined up. This was supposed to be your move the needle day and then your back flares or the migraine starts to creep in behind your eyes or fatigue hits. Not the I need coffee kind but the kind that makes your limbs feel weighted and in that moment there’s that physical discomfort but there’s also something else, a quiet grief. Because there’s a version of you, maybe five years ago, maybe before kids, maybe for this diagnosis, maybe before burnout, who could just push through, who could stay up late, who could grind the week straight, who didn’t have to calculate energy costs before every commitment.
Dr. Celia
00:43 – 00:59
And now you do. And sometimes that realization hurts more than the symptoms. If you run a business like you have unlimited physical capacity but your body says otherwise, you will build a business that constantly works against you. You’ll feel behind even when you’re succeeding.
Dr. Celia
01:00 – 01:18
You will feel inadequate even if you’re doing everything you need to do. And you’ll exhaust yourself trying to operate at a capacity your nervous system simply doesn’t have. Today, I’m going to show you how to design a business around your real physical capacity, not the capacity you wish you have. Because leadership isn’t about pretending your limits don’t exist.
Dr. Celia
01:19 – 01:37
It’s about designing wisely around them. So let’s start with something most women don’t talk about. Chronic pain, autoimmune issues, hormonal shifts, migraines, fatigue disorders, postpartum body changes, aging. They don’t affect just your schedule, they affect your identity.
Dr. Celia
01:37 – 02:03
Research on chronic illness adjustments consistently shows that emotional processing predicts long-term functioning more strongly than the symptom severity itself. So let me say that again, how you emotionally process that change matters more than how severe the symptoms are. Many high achieving women skip the grief stage of this. We go straight to, okay, I have this, how am I going to optimize this?
Dr. Celia
02:03 – 02:26
How am I going to hack this? How am I going to biohack my way out of this? But underneath that productivity drive is often grief and grief that’s not been addressed. Grief for the body that you used to have, the stamina that you used to have, the mental sharpness that used to be automatic, the freedom not to think about energy in a way of like, oh great, I’m drained again.
Dr. Celia
02:26 – 02:40
I’m not going to be able to get much done. And when we do not acknowledge that grief, it turns into self-criticism. Instead of, this is hard, it becomes, what’s wrong with me? You might not just be tired, you might just be grieving.
Dr. Celia
02:42 – 03:02
And to give an example of this, like A lot’s happened in the last couple of years with my health and definitely different than what I used to be. Like after having my son, my health changed. I had a lot more like diagnoses, complications and everything. And it really did impact my functioning.
Dr. Celia
03:02 – 03:30
Like I’m more tired than I normally am. Just a whole slew of things and I do grieve what I used to be like when I was younger like in my medical days Residency and even attending days how much energy I had how much like stamina how much I could do but I Realizing that like comparing myself to my older version isn’t doing me any good. I’m grateful for the younger version of me that was able to do all that to get me to this point.
Dr. Celia
03:30 – 03:48
And now this is a new reality. This is a new season of life. And now I need to figure out how to work in this capacity with what I have. And maybe for you, it’s like a moment that you realize that your work style has changed or maybe a flare up that’s forced you to cancel something important.
Dr. Celia
03:48 – 04:05
Inside my coaching program, this is something we gently unpack because you cannot design sustainability from denial. You design sustainability from acceptance. And you can miss your old capacity and still build a powerful business. Now let’s talk strategy.
Dr. Celia
04:05 – 04:17
Most productivity advice is built for people with relatively stable energy. Time blocking assumes 9 a.m. you is 2 p.m. you, Monday you is Thursday, week one of your cycle is week three of your cycle.
Dr. Celia
04:18 – 04:42
Biologically, that is not how humans work. Research on the ultradian rhythms show that we natural cycle every 90 to 120 minutes between higher and lower alertness states. Add chronic conditions, pain, or hormonal shifts, and that variability increases. So if you’re trying to force four straight hours of deep work during a flare day, you’re not failing, you’re actually fighting biology.
Dr. Celia
04:43 – 04:59
Instead of time blocking, I teach energy budgeting. Start by categorizing your task. High energy tasks such as content creation, sales calls, strategic planning, complex writing. Or medium energy tasks such as client follow-ups, editing, team check-ins, planning social posts.
Dr. Celia
05:00 – 05:32
or low-energy tasks such as inbox zero, filing, scheduling, formatting, admin. Then, and this is the key, you match that task to the energy available, not the clock. When I work with mom business owners inside BizMom Balance Blueprint VIP Experience, we work through the money-making project they want to complete through the lens of this. We identify which revenue generating tasks truly require high energy and the ones they have been overcomplicating, because often they think everything requires peak performance.
Dr. Celia
05:32 – 05:45
It does not. And when your physical capacity fluctuates, flexibility becomes your competitive advantage. So this is where it gets really empowering. Constraints are not just limitations, they are focus filters.
Dr. Celia
05:46 – 06:06
Research from Harvard Business School showed that constraints can actually improve innovation and creative problem solving. When resources are limited, people generate more original solutions. Your physical limitations can actually sharpen your business in powerful ways. They can actually force you to do like offer simplicity, like you don’t have the energy for 12 different offers.
Dr. Celia
06:07 – 06:21
So you refine one clear pathway. Or even price clarity, like you stop undercharging because overworking to compensate is no longer sustainable. Systems efficiency. You automate what you use to manually handle.
Dr. Celia
06:22 – 06:35
Cleaner messaging. Because you do not have the stamina for rambling content, so it becomes tighter. And this is something I see often. When women stop trying to prove that they can do it all, their business actually becomes more profitable.
Dr. Celia
06:36 – 07:07
Because clarity scales. Overextension does not. So to give an example of this, like when I was diagnosed a couple of years ago, I thought I could function the way I could, but turns out I couldn’t, like I had like low energy, more fatigue, more problems. But because of that happening, it helped me to even focus even sharper during the limited time that I have, like to make the most of the time when my son would nap or I had a little bit of time at night or some in the morning.
Dr. Celia
07:09 – 07:29
to really get what I need to get done. And I got more done in that short period of time than I would in like a three, four hour stretch of block. And it’s because I had to learn how to work with my limitations, with my personal life and my business. So maybe a time when simplifying actually increases results would be something that for you too.
Dr. Celia
07:31 – 07:54
Or maybe this is something you should consider, a time when simplifying actually increases results or when constraints forces you to streamline. Inside my Biz Mom Balance Blueprint VIP experience, we do not design for hustle, we design for sustainability. Because a business that requires peak health at all times is fragile. A business designed around realistic capacity is resilient.
Dr. Celia
07:56 – 08:11
Your body’s limits can be your business edge. Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise, even though it feels like hardship. Let’s close this teaching with a mindset recalibration. Many women unconsciously define productivity as how much can I do?
Dr. Celia
08:12 – 08:32
But sustainable entrepreneurs define it as what creates meaningful progress within my capacity, and those are not the same thing. If you measure yourself by output alone, you’ll always feel behind on low-capacity days. But if you measure by strategic movement, you protect confidence. And confidence is what keeps businesses growing long term.
Dr. Celia
08:32 – 08:43
Physical limitations do not disqualify you from leadership. They require smarter leadership. You’re not less capable. You’re operating within parameters and parameters can create precision.
Dr. Celia
08:45 – 09:05
Leadership is adaptation, not denial. So let’s recap. Today we talked about grieving the old productivity identity, budgeting energy instead of time, leveraging constraints for strategic advantage, and redefining productivity success. Physical limitations do not disqualify you from building something powerful.
Dr. Celia
09:05 – 09:36
